Beetroot performs best during cool and mild weather conditions.

Step 1: Seed Sowing

Sow seeds directly into soil at a depth of 1–1.5 cm (½ inch).

For faster germination in dry regions, seeds may be soaked in water for 12–24 hours before sowing.

Step 2: Spacing

  • Plant to Plant: 10 cm (4 Inches)

  • Row to Row: 45 cm (18 Inches)

Once seedlings are established, thin them to maintain proper spacing for larger root development.

Step 3: Sunlight

Provide 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Beetroot can also tolerate light partial shade.

Step 4: Watering

Keep soil consistently moist throughout the growing period.

Avoid allowing soil to dry out completely, as uneven watering may affect root development.

Container Growing Guide

Beetroot grows exceptionally well in containers and grow bags.

Recommended Container

  • Minimum Pot Depth: 10–12 Inches

  • Grow Bag: 12x12 Inches or Larger

Potting Mix

  • 40% Garden Soil

  • 30% Compost or Vermicompost

Use loose, well-drained soil to encourage uniform root formation.

Harvesting

Roots are typically ready for harvest approximately 80–90 days after sowing.

Harvest when roots reach 5–8 cm in diameter for the best flavor and tenderness.

You may also harvest earlier for smaller, sweeter baby beets.

Fresh beet greens can be harvested and used in salads, stir-fries, and soups.

Seed germination and plant performance depend on temperature, sunlight, soil quality, watering practices, and local growing conditions. Following recommended growing practices significantly improves germination rates, root quality, and overall yield.

For best results, grow during cooler months, maintain evenly moist soil, and harvest at the recommended stage for sweet, tender roots.
